In the Pakistani province of Punjab, the Lahore Veterinary College—now known as the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences—is a public university. It is accredited by the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC). Two more educational institutions in the Punjab are situated in the rural areas: Pattoki and Jhang.
When it was founded in 1882, it was one of the first institutions Great Britain established in the Indian subcontinent and one of the oldest centres for veterinary sciences and microbiology in Asia.
Since its inception, it has maintained its status as a renowned institution for veterinary and animal sciences, and it conducts extensive microbiology research and human resource development.
The Punjab Government allocated roughly 1000 acres at Pattoki for the establishment of the sub campus for the education and research work activities in June 2002, upon the upgrading of the college of veterinary sciences to the status of a university. Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is the name of this institution (Ravi Campus).
