Punjab Agriculture Pledges Equal Rights for Women Employees

The Agriculture Department of Punjab is unwaveringly committed to safeguarding the rights of its women employees.

During a recent meeting presided over by Additional Secretary, Agriculture (Admin) Umer Sher Chattha at Agriculture House, Lahore, the department underscored its dedication to upholding the code of conduct issued by the Punjab government for women’s empowerment.

The Additional Secretary emphasized the imperative need to adhere to the prescribed guidelines in both letter and spirit. Every wing of the Agriculture Department has received explicit instructions to diligently follow the codes of conduct specifically formulated to protect and promote the rights of women employees. These measures aim to create an atmosphere where women can carry out their duties within the organization without encountering fear or harassment.

During the meeting, Umer Sher Chattha directed the establishment of committees in all wings of the Agriculture Department, ensuring that 33 percent representation is allocated to women employees.

This proactive step aims to amplify the voice and participation of women within the department’s decision-making processes. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of providing separate prayer areas and washrooms for women in all sub-departments, with immediate action to be taken to implement these facilities.

The Additional Secretary made it unequivocally clear that any complaint regarding untoward incidents would be met with immediate action in accordance with the established code of conduct. This commitment underscores the department’s determination to swiftly address and rectify any issues that may compromise the well-being or rights of women employees.

In a notable move to support working mothers, the Agriculture Department has established a day care center for women employees. This facility, activated immediately, is designed to provide comprehensive care for the children of working mothers, complete with all necessary amenities.

The department is actively making arrangements to ensure a conducive and nurturing environment for the children, reflecting a holistic approach to supporting its female workforce.

As the Agriculture Department of Punjab takes these progressive steps, it sets a commendable example for other government entities in prioritizing women empowerment and fostering gender-inclusive workplaces.

By strictly adhering to the prescribed codes of conduct and implementing proactive measures, the department aims to create an environment where women employees can thrive professionally, free from any form of discrimination or harassment.
