The University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS) Syndicate has approved a Rs. 3.811 billion budget with a focus on innovation, applied research, development, improving facilities for quality education, services, and technology transfer for the fiscal year 2023–2024.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad, who presided over the 72nd Syndicate meeting, stated that the emphasis is on applied research and development projects to further enhance the quality of education, research, and services at the university. 123 active research projects are worth Rs. 1.153 billion.

The amount of Rs. 953.500 million has been set aside for development projects, according to Prof. Nasim Ahmad. One new project, “Provision of Academic Block and Rehabilitation at UVAS, Ravi Campus, Pattoki,” has been allocated Rs. 80.000 million for the upcoming fiscal year 2023–2024, while Rs. 873.500 million will be used for ongoing projects.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, among the ongoing projects, funds have been set aside for the “Strengthening of Academic and Allied Facilities at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Jhang,” “Strengthening of Research Facilities at UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki,” and “Strengthening of KBCMA, CVAS,” totaling Rs. 248.000 million, Rs. 500.000 million, and Rs. 125.500 million, respectively.

The university expects non-development income of Rs. 2.573 billion from various sources during the year 2023–2024, while non-development expenditure is expected to be Rs. 2.858 billion, resulting in a deficit of Rs. 284.113 million, according to Treasurer Mr. Muhammad Umar, who earlier presented the budget before the Syndicate.

Regarding the deficit, he stated that the university would make an effort to close it by increasing the revenue it receives from its own sources, as well as the amount of research-based products and diagnostic and clinical services it provides to interested parties. To keep recurring expenses within reach of available funds, he added, special austerity measures will also be adopted.

The Vice-Chancellor earlier briefed the members of the syndicate on a variety of academic and research activities, rankings, the dairy forum, seminars, training sessions on various subjects, motivational lectures by renowned speakers, conferences, the talent hunt sports league, workshops, memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for the promotion of education and research with various institutions and departments, university development projects, student competitions, and UVAS accomplishments, among other things.
