DSPC will work as a facilitator to help public sector organisations and academic institutions create viable entrepreneurship models across the entire livestock-based value chain (LBVC).
In order to establish a joint project of Dairy Science Park Cairo (DSPC)., the Academy for Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) Egypt and Dairy Science Park (DSP) Peshawar have joined forces.
A formal memorandum of understanding (MoU) will soon be signed between DSP and ASRT for the establishment of the DSPC and future mutual cooperation in order to give practical shape to the creation of the DSPC.
The establishment of the Dairy Science Cairo (DSPC), a joint project of the Academy for Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) and Dairy Science Park Peshawar Pakistan, was the desire of Dr. Abdul Rehman Ilyas, Advisor to ASRT President, Government of Egypt for Technology Innovations and Collaborations. Along with Prof. M Subhan Qureshi, he founded DSP.
The proposal has received the support of Mahmoud Sakr, president of ASRT, and vice president Dr. Amr Faroukh Abdelkhalik.
The founder of the DSP Peshawar, Professor Dr. Subhan Qureshi, claims that the establishment of two techno-parks with assistance from the national consultancies of the FAO and ITC of the UN is recommended based on the DSP’s experience with Good Governance and Policy Reforms (2011-2023).
He claims that the establishment of Dairy Science Park Cairo (DSPC) as a separate regulatory, financial, and marketing authority will take place. An Endowment Fund and a Board of Governors made up of representatives from all pertinent parties will oversee DSPC.
DSPC will work as a facilitator to help public sector organisations and academic institutions create viable entrepreneurship models across the entire livestock-based value chain (LBVC).
The primary goals of DSPC would be to create decent jobs, exportable halal-certified foods, and biotech products.
According to a press release from Dr. Ilyas, Prof. Subhan Qureshi is a genuinely dedicated scientist who has a strong sense of empathy for the livestock and dairy farming community in Pakistan’s province of Pakhtunkhwa and the country as a whole.
He asserts that Professor Qureshi’s acute understanding of the problems and desire to find novel solutions can attract the attention of donors and decision-makers, leading to the development of the necessary resource base that will have an effect on the earnings and standard of living of the underprivileged dairy farmers as well as strengthen the scientific community for the benefit of the students.
He described himself as an expert in institutional innovation and development. They discussed the idea of the Dairy Science Park, a platform that will bring all the stakeholders together to discuss problems and issues and find sustainable solutions by maximising resource use.
According to him, they tried to incorporate the dairy and livestock sectors into the process by talking about it in light of my experience at the Agri-Science Park.
The Dairy Science Park initiative’s journey from consultation workshops to institutionalization is a remarkable case study for development experts. Prof. Qureshi and his team, along with policymakers, zeal and commitment, substantiated the political will needed for its success.
The various training programs, partnership development efforts, government advocacy, and program mapping are an achievement in itself.
He asserted that the process of research innovation and its adoption in the information technology and life sciences sectors is fairly established, and that platforms are easily accessible for a “seeker” (an innovator seeking support, an entrepreneur, a researcher, etc.) to consider commercialization strategies and obtain the necessary assistance from “providers” (universities, research institutions, donors, VC/PE partners, etc.).
Agriculture and its related industries, such as dairy, fisheries, forestry, etc., need to be given the same impetus and institutional innovation.
Such innovations are taking place all over the world in a variety of formats, using nemeses like incubators, platforms, accelerators, innovation centres, etc., with the fundamental goal of bringing the stakeholder ecosystem together and identifying issues and problems in a coordinated manner. One such early adopter of institutional innovation practise in the dairy industry is the Dairy Science Park initiative, which established a learning trend for others.
