Dr. Nasim Ahmad, vice chancellor of the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences in Lahore, stated that consuming pure and safe milk can help to lessen stunting in children, which is a significant challenge and issue. The UVAS Department of Dairy Technology hosted the seminar the Vice-Chancellor spoke at on Thursday to commemorate World Milk Day.

On this day, a number of events were held to raise awareness of the value of milk, its nutritional content, and various milk products, including a walk, a seminar, a question-and-answer session on safe milk, milk drinking, and food item competitions.

The Vice-Chancellor presided over the seminar on World Milk Day, while the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Production and Technology, Prof. Dr. Saima, the Dean of the Biosciences, Prof. Dr. Habibur Rehman, and the Chairperson of the Department of Parasitology led the walk first.

Chair of the Department of Dairy Technology, Prof. Dr. Kamran Ashraf Dairy technology students, faculty, Punjab, Dr. Saima Inayat, Dr. Muhammad Junaid, and officials from the Food Authority and the Livestock Department, along with businesspeople from both the public and private sectors, were present.

The Vice-Chancellor discussed the value of milk and various issues relating to its quality and safety. According to research, milk consumption may help children who are experiencing stunting.  He claimed that raising the price of milk would address this issue.

He claimed that while the dairy industry faces difficulties, there are also opportunities that should be taken advantage of. He praised UVAS’s dairy technology department’s efforts in conducting trainings to increase the capacity of various dairy professionals.

The Vice-Chancellor also went to a booth where a variety of food products made with milk by students studying dairy technology were on display. He gave out shields to the attendees, organisers, and contest winners.

Earlier, Dr. Saima Inayat, the chairperson of the dairy technology department, gave the vote of thanks after remarks by Dairy Technologist from the Punjab Food Authority Naveed Ahmed on the provision of safe milk, Quality Head of the Chashni-Yum Group Mubeen Arshad Awan on the impact of raw milk quality on processed dairy milk, President of the Cattle Owner Welfare Association of Punjab Ilyas Gujjar, and CEO of Farmers Cheese Making Imran Saleh.
