Increase In Agricultural Production Can Benefit Country's Economy

The National Assembly Speaker stated on Saturday that an increase in agricultural production can help the country’s economy. The Speaker also stated that historical decisions must be made in order to improve important crops such as cotton.

In a National Farmers Day message being celebrated across the country on Sunday (December 18), National Assembly Speaker said that sustainable economic policies can help farmers solve their problems.

He stated that resolving farmer problems and developing agriculture are among the top priorities of the incumbent government for resolving farmer problems. He stated that the implementation of farmer-friendly policies was critical to improving the country’s agriculture sector, which is the backbone of the country’s development.

He stated that the future of Pakistan’s food security and economic development is dependent on modern, sustainable, and scientific agriculture that maximizes agricultural production. The Special Committee on Agricultural Products of the National Assembly is well aware of farmers’ and growers’ concerns. He urged all parliamentary parties to develop an agricultural development strategy.

He stated that, despite being an agricultural country, Pakistan is forced to import food items such as wheat and sugar, which is the primary cause of the country’s decrease in agricultural production. He stated that the government must take immediate action to boost agricultural production in the country.

Appreciating farmers’ services, he stated that farmers are a hardworking nation whose tireless work provides us with basic necessities such as food.

On this occasion, Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani stated that the current government must take immediate action to address the problems of farmers. He urged the government and the opposition to collaborate on agricultural development and the formulation of a comprehensive policy to benefit farmers.

On 18 December 2019, Pakistan celebrated National Farmers’ Day, also known as Kissan Day, for the first time in the country’s history in Islamabad. The idea was proposed by Pakistan’s leading fertiliser manufacturing company Fatima Group in favour of promoting farmer welfare and prosperity on 18 December 2019 during a special event in Islamabad, which was acknowledged and endorsed by the country’s premier.
