Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, officially permits telcos to conduct 5G trials. Federal Cabinet has approved the issuance of Policy Directive to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) allowed telcos to conduct the trials following set regulations under the Section 8 of the PTA Re-Organization Act, 1996.
PTA has an official stamp of approval to consent with 5G trials, telcos will have framework to follow if they want to test 5G.
Prior testing is an essential phase before the 5G spectrum is auctioned off in a few years. PTA has not confirmed to how will they allocate the bands of the 5G spectrum to various telcos but telcos cannot charge their customers for 5G services during this testing period.
Buzz 5G has been around for a little while now. Zong stated its interest in testing 5G technology in Pakistan when IT Minister Anusha Rahman stated that Pakistan is ready for 5G rollout by 2020.
US was the first to have the 5G spectrum for commercial use. We can only guess its implications until it rolls out to the masses. It was said to be 10 times faster than the 3G technology. Only tests show that 5G is 100 times faster than 4G technology or not. This means that 5G connections will seldom drop below the gigabits per second speed.
