Plastic bags are the main cause of pollution to combat pollution the use of plastic bags needs to be lessened. Keeping in view the federal government has decided to impose tax on plastic bags and the ministry for Climate Change has recommended a tax of Rs1-2 per plastic bag.

Minister of Climate Change Zartaj Gul Wazir highlights the aim of this tax is to get rid of plastic bags and the government believes imposing tax is the only way to make people stop using plastic bags.

The ministry has consulted provinces regarding the proposal and the tax will be imposed after taking provinces into confidence.

The exploit of plastic bags is deleterious to human lives as well as other marine creatures and we are trying to get rid of it. In order to restrain plastic pollution the use of eco-friendly or paper bags should be promoted.

Senator Ayesha Raza suggested that to get relieve of plastic bags we must elevate awareness among people while there is need to persuade the use of cloth bags.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator Faisal Javed opposed the tax. He said that the idea is good but tax cannot be imposed, as a substitute bring an innovative suggestion or educate people first, craft awareness, scamper campaign so that populace know about it.

The ministry’s additional secretary recommended if you don’t want to impose tax then at least one percent of all PSDP project funds must be submitted in climate change fund so it can grant an alternative of plastic bags.

Plastic Pollution needs attention at the priority basis as it adversely affects the lives of millions. Initiate steps were mandatory to combat this raising issue.
