The PMDC and WFME will now work together to arrange for the international assessors of the WFME to visit Pakistan and inspect the PMDC and all of its regulatory systems.
After fulfilling the necessary conditions to qualify for WFME recognition of its Accreditation Program, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) submitted an application to the WFME to start the procedure.
The Council gave the WFME Recognition Process top priority after the PMDC Act 2022 was signed into law. In order to meet all the requirements of the WFME application, President PMDC Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj established a WFME accreditation cell made up of experts from all over Pakistan and held several meetings for in-depth deliberation.
Additionally, PMDC conducted a number of workshops across the country for the stated objective. The workshop was anticipated by nearly 124 colleges. The WFME accreditation procedure included the panel of experts from across the nation.
In the first step, the WFME has approved the PMDC’s eligibility for WFME recognition of the PMDC as an accrediting body and its Accreditation programme after evaluating the PMDC’s application. The PMDC and WFME will now work together to arrange for the international assessors of the WFME to visit Pakistan and inspect the PMDC and all of its regulatory systems.
The team will assess a medical college’s entire accreditation procedure by PMDC. Before 2024, the entire process, including the physical site assessment and inspection, is anticipated to be finished in less than a year.
All graduates from these colleges licensed by the PMDC will be able to train and work in the USA and internationally without any restrictions thanks to the WFME recognition of the PMDC and its Accreditation Programme.
The president of PMDC stated that the organisation has been working to fulfil the necessary requirements, develop standards in accordance with not only WFME standards but also with international best practises, and ensure that medical education is placed on a path of continuous improvement and attains internationally recognised quality as well as that Pakistan’s medical education and doctors are appropriately recognised internationally.
After the tireless work of PMDC, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj added that this is a significant accomplishment. The PMDC’s efforts to actively pursue the effort in record time were appreciated by the federal Minister of Health.
