Reportedly, telecommunications companies have asked the government for free 5G spectrum for five years. According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officials, prior to the nation’s 5G network’s launch, partners will also be consulted and international regulations will be reviewed.

Documents state that the telecom companies insist on using the 5G spectrum technology for free first in order to assess its application and effects.

The businesses also demanded that import duties be waived for 5G handsets and equipment. They have asked the government to postpone the spectrum sale until the results of 5G usage are known. The businesses request that 2G and 3G mobile devices not be produced locally or imported.

The government will issue a policy directive regarding the rollout of 5G, according to the PTA. The government will also review international rules for the deployment of 5G, according to the authority, and consult with partners. Additionally, it was added that the government would hire a regular consultant in this area.

The GSMA considers the spectrum band between 3.3 and 3.8 GHz to be particularly desirable. The fourth-generation (4G) networks that connect the vast majority of contemporary cellphones are expected to be replaced by the fifth-generation (5G) technology standard for broadband cellular networks, which cellular phone providers began rolling out globally in 2019.

5G networks, like their forerunners, are cellular networks in which the service area is segmented into discrete regions known as cells. Through a local antenna within the cell, all 5G wireless devices are connected to the Internet and phone network via radio waves.

Higher download speeds—up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbit/s)—are available on the new networks. The quality of Internet services in crowded areas is improved by 5G because it is faster than current networks and has a higher bandwidth that can connect more different devices.
