Pakistan has achieved ‘Full Signatory’ of Washington Accord that can open new doors to employment opportunities abroad for Pakistani engineers declared by Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain. Secretary Science and Technology Fazal Abbas Maken and Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council Javed Saleem Qureshi along with the Minister for Science and Technology informed media Pakistan entered signatory status as a 19th country of the world and third Islamic country after Malaysia and Turkey.
“Universities accreditation by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) under Washington Accord (WA) status.
Is an honorable achievement”, said the Minister of science and technology.
He further said that this accreditation has a massive impact on creating jobs at national and international level. This is marked as a landmark in the history of PEC Pakistan. Coming generation will feel pride on this accreditation and PEC, recognition at such paragon in Pakistan and internationally that can improve the quality of engineering programmes change in basic assumptions of introducing outcome based education and assessment system in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
The same standards are now being adopted by other profession and accrediting organization working under Higher Education Commission. He explained that the accreditation process of an applicant country is checked for its quality of education and competency of engineers. The entire process is subject to peer reviewed by designated reviewers of at least three to five signatory countries. It is their set criteria and standards to detect for implementation of Outcome-based Education and Assessment system in the authority of an applicant economy.
