The National Centre of Excellence in Geology (NCEG) at the University of Peshawar is set to host the prestigious Earth Science Pakistan (ESP) Conference at the Bara Gali Summer Campus from June 2, 2024. This event continues NCEG’s two-decade tradition of bringing together leading experts in Earth Sciences from around the globe.
NCEG has a storied history of organizing these conferences, having successfully conducted ESP in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2022. Each event has focused on addressing critical earth science challenges pertinent to Pakistan. ESP 2024 aims to provide an inclusive platform for national and international scientists to present their latest research across various fields of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
This year’s conference will feature a special workshop aimed at public and private sector stakeholders. This workshop, organized in collaboration with Bristol University (UK), the Himalayan University Consortium (ICIMOD, Nepal), and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), will focus on climate-induced hazards and the associated risks to critical infrastructure.
Dedicated sessions throughout the conference will delve into economic mineral resources, energy and petroleum resources, structural geology, applied geophysics, and emerging technologies.
The ESP 2024 is set to host prominent international scientists from the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, China, and Nepal. These experts will share their groundbreaking research and insights, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and advancements in the field.
The event has garnered significant sponsorship from esteemed organizations, including the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Soil and Water Conservation Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, US Agency for International Development (USAID), Pakistan Mineral Development Department (PMDC), Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Center (PASTIC), Organization of Islamic Cooperation Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL).

The convening of ESP 2024 is spearheaded by Dr. Liaqat Ali, Director of NCEG, with Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan, serving as the Patron in Chief. Esteemed Patrons include Prof. Dr. Qasim Jan and Prof. Dr. M. Tahir Shah.
