PSEB has announced plans to establish Pakistan’s inaugural Woman Software Technology Park (WSTP) in Women University Bagh, Azad Kashmir.
In a groundbreaking move toward gender equality and technological advancement, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), operating under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, has announced plans to establish Pakistan’s inaugural Woman Software Technology Park (WSTP) in Women University Bagh, Azad Kashmir.
The WSTP, spanning approximately 5,000 square feet, is poised to become a beacon of empowerment and innovation exclusively tailored for women in the technology industry, providing them with a modern and secure workspace conducive to creativity and collaboration.
Collaborating closely with Women University Bagh Azad Kashmir, PSEB has finalized blueprints for the WSTP’s development, with both entities signing a mutually beneficial agreement. PSEB has earmarked a budget of 31 million rupees for the establishment of this pioneering park, symbolizing a firm commitment to fostering gender inclusivity and technological progress.
This landmark initiative underscores PSEB’s broader vision of promoting gender equality, empowering women through technology, nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship, creating employment opportunities, and bolstering local economic development. By pioneering the establishment of Pakistan’s first women-only technology park, the project aims to level the playing field, providing women with equal opportunities to thrive in the technology sector.
According to PSEB officials, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the inception of WSTP will play a pivotal role in addressing gender disparities, driving innovation-led economic growth, and facilitating sustainable development. Furthermore, the park is anticipated to address the pressing demand for skilled professionals in the technology sector while bridging the gender gap that persists within the industry.
The region of Bagh, Azad Jammu, and Kashmir, known for its remote location, presents unique challenges, including limited access to resources and opportunities, particularly in advanced technology. Geographical isolation often hampers residents’ ability to access modern amenities and opportunities available in more urbanized areas.
Recognizing these challenges, the establishment of the Women Software Technology Park at the Women’s University of Bagh represents a significant step toward overcoming critical barriers. Situated in a remote area predominantly inhabited by women, the WSTP will provide a localized solution, eliminating the need for women to commute to urban centers in pursuit of opportunities in the technology sector.
Beyond addressing logistical hurdles, the park is poised to catalyze socio-economic development by fostering job creation and enhancing the skills of the local population. By nurturing a conducive environment for women to excel in technology, the WSTP aims to unlock the region’s untapped potential, paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.
The establishment of Pakistan’s inaugural Woman Software Technology Park marks a significant milestone in PSEB’s endeavors to foster technological innovation and economic growth nationwide. Building upon its track record of establishing 43 software technology parks in secondary and tertiary cities across Pakistan, PSEB reaffirms its unwavering commitment to driving progress and prosperity through technology.
