Rahim, bringing a wealth of experience to his new role, has previously served as the Director General Telecom (Wireless) within the ministry, showcasing his deep understanding of its operations and intricacies. Moreover, he has been actively involved in various capacities within the industry, serving as a Board Member for Ufone 4G and Ufone Microfinance Bank, and holding key positions such as Deputy Director for Enterprise Solutions & Support at Zong 4G.
Notably, Jahanzeb Rahim holds a crucial position as the focal person for the Telecom sector in the Prime Minister’s ‘Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC)’ for economic revival, highlighting his strategic importance in driving technological growth and investment in the country. Additionally, he currently serves as the Director Audit at Cloud Office, overseeing the implementation of the Cloud First Policy, further underlining his multi-faceted expertise in the field.
The appointment of Rahim comes after the position of Member Telecom at MoIT&T remained vacant for the past five months following the completion of Omar Malik’s tenure on August 27th. After obtaining permission from the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Ministry of IT and Telecom initiated the rigorous appointment process in November 2023. This process involved shortlisting and selecting candidates, culminating in the submission of a panel of three candidates to the federal government for the final appointment decision.
