In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable transportation, Caretaker Chief Minister has officially granted the first-ever license for electric rickshaw manufacturing to Sazgar Engineering Works Limited. The historic ceremony, held in Lahore, marked the commencement of electric rickshaw production in the province, signaling a significant stride towards eco-friendly mobility.

During the ceremony, Caretaker CM unveiled plans to distribute 26 thousand electric motorbikes and rickshaws to the public on an interest-free basis. The initiative is set to benefit various segments of the population, as Naqvi outlined the allocation of 10,000 e-bikes for students, 2,000 for working women, 2,000 e-three-wheelers for handicapped individuals, 10,000 e-rickshaws for the general public, and 2,000 e-bikes for government employees.

In a bid to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and reduce reliance on traditional fuels, Caretaker CM also announced a province-wide ban on government-level purchases of petrol-powered motorcycles. The decision reflects a commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable transportation future, with a focus on promoting electric bikes.

The Caretaker CM commended the Bank of Punjab for its support in realizing the government’s initiative to provide interest-free electric bikes and rickshaws to the masses. The move is expected to not only contribute to a cleaner environment but also alleviate the financial burden on individuals through interest-free financing.

Furthermore, the ceremony saw the inauguration of the Qingqi Rickshaw Registration Program across the province, aimed at streamlining the registration process for electric rickshaws. The program is expected to facilitate the integration of electric rickshaws into the existing transportation system, promoting their widespread use.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including the Consul General of China Mr. Zhao Shiren, Consul General of America Ms. Kirstin K. Hawkins, Provincial Ministers, SM Tanveer, Mansoor Qadir, Amir Mir, Ibrahim Hasan Murad, Bilal Afzal, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Chairman of Bank of Punjab Zafar Masood, Secretary Transport, CCPO, Commissioner Lahore, and senior officials from various companies.
