With global competitive changes, prestigious event locations, and the LoL Esports Hall of Legends introduction, the stage is set for an unforgettable season.
Global Competitive Changes: Raising the Stakes
In a bid to elevate the competition, Riot Games has implemented significant changes to the global competitive structure. The organizers aim to establish a stronger connection between the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and Worlds.
Notably, this season introduces a base of three Worlds slots for the LEC, LCS, LCK, and LPL, while PCS and VCS will each retain two Worlds slots. The LLA and CBLOL will secure one Worlds slot each. Teams can now earn additional Worlds slots based on their performance at MSI, with the winning team gaining a guaranteed spot at Worlds and an additional slot for their region.
For instance, if we look back at MSI 2023, the victorious team, JDG, would auto-qualify for Worlds, allowing a total of four LPL teams to qualify. The next best-performing region, the LCK in this scenario, would secure an extra Worlds 2023 seed, bringing their total to four as well.
To ensure commitment to their home league, the early World qualifier must participate in their region’s Summer Playoffs, excluding the LEC, where qualification for the LEC Regional Finals is required.
MSI and Worlds 2024 Locations: A Global Odyssey
MSI 2024 is scheduled to take place in Chengdu, China, from May 1 to 19. Following this, the Worlds spectacle will kick off in Berlin at the revamped Riot Games Arena for the Play-Ins and Swiss Stages.
The competition will then move to the Adidas Arena in Paris, France, for both Quarterfinals and Semifinals. Worlds 2024 is set to captivate fans from September 25 to November 2.
Introducing the LoL Esports Hall of Legends: Honoring the Icons
In a move to immortalize those who have left an indelible mark on the game, the sport, and the community, Riot Games introduces the LoL Esports Hall of Legends.
An independent voting panel, consisting of esports industry veterans and experts from every region, will select the “first inductee.” The Hall of Legends will annually celebrate those inducted, honoring their historic careers both in real life and in the game.
