Pakistan has established itself as a key participant at GITEX Global 2023, the biggest IT expo in the world, in a noteworthy demonstration of technological strength. Under the umbrella of TechDestinationPakistan, a total of 27 businesses and more than 45 startups are showcasing the country’s expanding presence in the international IT market.

Dr. Umar Saif, caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications, highlighted Pakistan’s substantial footprint at GITEX Global 2023, emphasizing the significance of the TechDestinationPakistan brand. He stated, “Pakistan has one of the largest exhibit lounges at GITEX, the world’s largest IT exhibition.”

Over the past few years, Pakistan’s IT exports and startup ventures have experienced remarkable growth, driven by government policies conducive to the industry.

Presently, Pakistan’s IT exports amount to USD 2.6 billion annually, a figure that is projected to surge to USD 10 billion within the next 2-3 years.

To further support the sector, Pakistan is in the process of establishing special technology zones. Currently, 5-7 technology zones are in advanced stages of readiness, with two already operational. These zones are envisioned to house a diverse range of technology-driven entities including technology firms, outsourcing companies, startups, financial institutions, and real estate developers capable of constructing technology infrastructure.

Dr. Saif also revealed plans for creating co-working spaces equipped with essential infrastructure to accommodate up to 500,000 freelancers working online in Pakistan. Notably, Pakistan boasts the world’s second-largest online freelancing workforce in the field of IT.

In regard to the startup landscape, Dr. Saif disclosed that an impressive USD 800 billion has already been invested in startups within Pakistan, underscoring the tremendous potential within the country’s IT and startup sectors.

Dr. Saif commended the GITEX event, acknowledging it as an invaluable platform for Pakistani exhibitors to engage with key industry players, explore potential business ventures, and stay abreast of pivotal global developments in the IT sphere. The event provides a pivotal opportunity for networking and establishing connections with international stakeholders.

The participation of Pakistan in GITEX Global 2023 not only signals its growing presence in the global IT arena but also showcases the nation’s commitment to fostering technological innovation and entrepreneurship on a global scale.
