According to the Palo Alto, California company, the SN40L chip is designed to handle AI models that are over twice the size of the advanced iteration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Rodrigo Liang, CEO of SambaNova, emphasized its specialization, stating, “SN40L is specifically built for large language models running enterprise applications. We’ve built a full stack that has allowed us to really understand the enterprise use case really well.”
For major enterprises seeking to implement AI in innovative ways, considerations differ significantly from consumer-oriented software like ChatGPT, Liang explained. Factors such as security, accuracy, and privacy necessitate tailored design approaches to cater to the distinctive needs of enterprise customers.

The newly introduced SambaNova chip boasts the capability to power a model with an impressive 5 trillion parameters, and it incorporates two advanced forms of memory. Memory constraints can sometimes hinder the processing of AI data. SambaNova asserts that its combination of hardware elements enables customers to execute larger AI models without compromising accuracy for size.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is responsible for manufacturing the chip for SambaNova Systems, underlining the collaborative efforts in the semiconductor industry to advance AI capabilities.
