The International Government Communication Forum (IGCF) 2023, hosted by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) under the theme ‘Today’s Resources, Tomorrow’s Wealth,’ delved into critical issues surrounding resource management in today’s swiftly evolving world.

Under the title “Global Resources in an Era of Change: Balancing Solutions and Sustainability,” a panel of distinguished experts and thought leaders congregated to explore the intricate relationship between resource consumption, production, and the pivotal role of government communication and media in steering towards a sustainable future.

Among the esteemed speakers of IGCF 2023 were Khalifa Musabeh Ahmed Alteneiji, Chairman of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock in Sharjah, Mohamed Abou El Enein, Deputy of the Egyptian Parliament and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cleopatra Group, Ambassador Marco A. Suazo, Director of UNITAR New York Office, and Sarah Shaw, Senior Advisor to COP28 UAE. Together, they charted a course for achieving equilibrium, sustainability, and responsible resource utilization amidst shifting dynamics.

Alteneiji shared the inspiring tale of a 400-hectare wheat farm envisioned and inaugurated in November 2022 by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Despite facing challenges like seed and equipment shortages, the project has already achieved remarkable success, producing wheat with an astounding 80 percent protein content, thanks to cutting-edge technology.

Ambassador Marco A. Suazo urged for global cooperation and a strong focus on protecting the rights of people in developing nations while addressing global challenges. He drew attention to rising prices and inflation rates, as well as the concerning trend of consuming in nine months what the planet produces in a year.

Mohamed Abou El Enein highlighted systematic issues in resource management, advocating for a new UN fund to address climate change-induced damages. He emphasized the diverse needs and challenges across the globe, asserting that a one-size-fits-all approach is insufficient.

Sarah Shaw, Senior Advisor to COP28 UAE, emphasized the crucial role of the private sector, academia, and public entities in formulating solutions. She stressed the need to transition to clean energy, production, and agriculture while safeguarding food security.

The discussions underscored the urgency of global cooperation and innovative strategies in addressing resource management challenges. The forum served as a platform for thought leaders to exchange insights and drive collective action towards a sustainable and prosperous future.
