AKU Medical College Wins Prestigious AMEE Stellar Award

The Aga Khan University Medical College received the AMEE (Association for Medical Education Europe) 2023 Stellar Award during a ceremony in Glasgow, Scotland.

Organizations who have won three ASPIRE-to-Excellence accolades are granted the Stellar Award. In 2013 and 2022, AKU earned awards for exceptional assessment and student interaction as well as curriculum development.

AKU received the Stellar Award certificate at the AMEE 2023 conference this year, which attracted participants from all around the world, for having won three consecutive awards. These awards, which were first given out in 2013, go above and beyond the typical accreditation process to recognize and acknowledge exceptional academic success.

Over 50 universities from across the world have won ASPIRE-to-Excellence awards, but AKU is the first university from Asia to ever get the Stellar Award for being recognized in three or more categories. The other two come from the UK and the USA.

“The honor recognizes AKU’s ongoing dedication to quality, which is in line with regional healthcare requirements. According to Dr. Sadaf Khan, associate dean for undergraduate medical education and associate professor of surgery at AKU, “faculty development, a welcoming learning environment for students, community outreach, and use of technology are all integral components for the creation of a holistic, forward-looking, and solution-based system of healthcare education.”

Dr. Adil Haider, dean of the AKU Medical College, stated, “Pakistan and its academic community should be very proud of this occasion. For “their outstanding contributions in maintaining the highest academic quality,” he praised the professors and personnel.

AMEE is a global organization for the advancement of health professions education that has more than 30,000 members in more than 130 nations on five continents.

The Medical College, established in 1983 as part of Aga Khan University’s Faculty of Health Sciences in Pakistan, prioritizes the professional, personal, and intellectual development of its students to produce responsible healthcare professionals who contribute to society and become future leaders in their chosen field.
