The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) organized the MED-Health Expo and Summit 2023 at Serena Hotel in Islamabad from August 16-17, 2023. The event brought together key players from Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industries, private hospitals, and universities engaged in applied research.

Notably, the National Center of Industrial Biotechnology (NCIB) participated as an exhibitor, showcasing its research and development (R&D) products in the domains of nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and cosmeceuticals.

The MED-Health Expo and Summit aimed to foster collaboration and innovation within the healthcare sector. It served as a platform for stakeholders to engage in discussions, share expertise, and explore opportunities for industry-academia linkage and research partnerships.

The event was inaugurated by President of Pakistan, Mr. Dr. Arif Alvi. In a panel discussion on “Industry-Academia Linkage and Research in Pakistan’s Healthcare Sector,” Prof. Dr. Abida Raza, Technical Director of NCIB, represented PMAS-AAUR and highlighted the significance of bridging the gap between academia and industry. She emphasized the need to identify mutual research interests and provide services that contribute to the growth of the healthcare sector.

Prof. Abida underscored the vital role of agriculture in strengthening the pharmaceutical industry by supplying raw materials as import substitutes. She discussed the value of plant tissue culture and hydroponics in generating high-quality raw materials for pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmeceuticals, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the local and international markets.

The presence of PMAS-AAUR at the expo, with its logo displayed on the Pharmaceutical Expo’s Media Wall, showcased the pivotal role of agriculture in bolstering the pharmaceutical sector and its potential to alleviate the economic burden on the healthcare system.

Mr. Zamurrad Khan, President of the Allied Health Organization Pakistan, graced the occasion as the chief guest, accompanied by other dignitaries. The event provided an excellent platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and forging collaborations to drive innovation and progress in Pakistan’s healthcare landscape.
