The federal minister for information technology expressed the hope that if current government of Pakistan incentives were maintained, IT-related exports would increase from their current level of $ 2.6 billion to $15 billion annually within the next three years.

The minister stated that IT exports were $1.4 billion in the 2019–20 fiscal year, $2.1 billion in the 2020–21 fiscal year, and then increased to $2.6 billion until May 2023. He claimed that the Prime Minister’s keen interest in taxation and industry-related issues had helped to restore the confidence of the IT sector.

The Minister described the ongoing projects and stated that their goal was to provide broadband services in underserved areas. She also provided an overview of the steps taken over the previous five years to advance the IT and telecom industries.

He emphasised that exports from the IT sector of Pakistan rose by an impressive 28% in May 2023, attributing this favourable development to government efforts.

According to the minister, the government created a policy for mobile phone manufacturing, and 28 companies are currently operating in Pakistan with the goal of providing everyone with a smart phone. He added that it would support the promotion of online banking, commerce, agriculture, and education.

He added that products made in Pakistan were also being promoted and that there had been a significant increase in broadband users.

In Pakistan, the information technology sector is expanding and has room to grow further in the future. The Pakistani government’s Ministry of Information Technology is in charge of overseeing matters pertaining to the IT sector.

Even in times of economic crisis, Pakistan’s IT sector is regarded as one of its most prosperous economic sectors. Under the direction of Atta-ur-Rahman, the Federal Minister of Science and Technology, the first IT policy and implementation strategy was approved in August 2000, laying the groundwork for the growth of this industry. During this time, universities prioritised high-quality IT education over sheer quantity.
