Data from job portal Indeed shows that over the previous month, job postings for generative AI-related positions increased by about 20% in the United States as companies looked to capitalise on a technology that has been widely hailed as the next significant growth engine.
The May statistic, which was 204 per million job openings and more than twice as high as the level in 2021, showed the buzz surrounding AI, which was brought on by the phenomenal success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
On Indeed’s U.S. platform, data scientist jobs made up 5% of the AI job listings, and positions like software engineer, machine learning engineer, and data engineer were also in demand.
According to Nick Bunker, director of economic research at Indeed, “there has been a noticeable increase in job seekers’ interest in AI-related jobs, especially since the introduction of ChatGPT.”
