IPO-Pakistan and PITB Chairman Launch Online Trademark Filing System

The GO-LIVE of the Trademark (TM) Online Filing System with Online Payment Facility was announced by the DG of the IPO-Pakistan, Ms. Shazia Adnan, and the Chairman of the PITB, Mr. Faisal Yousaf. Mr. Syed Nayyer Ali, Director of the PITB, Mr. Kashif Latif Malik, and Mr. Syed Anjum Raza Bokhari, Deputy Directors of the IPO-Pakistan, all attended the ceremony.

In a ceremony held at Arfa Software Technology Park (ASTP) on June 14th, the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan) and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) officially launched the PITB designed e-Filing System to receive Intellectual Property (IP) applications from IP applicants and stakeholders.

In addition to enabling the online filing of trademark applications, the initiative will also make some additional services possible, saving applicants money and time while ensuring convenience.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Shazia Adnan said that IPO-Pakistan is firmly committed to offering its stakeholders hassle-free services. She claimed that the IPO-Pakistan and PITB IT teams worked nonstop to complete the digitalization process.

She claimed that the new GO-LIVE system for filing online IP applications would significantly reduce the cost and time of filing trademark applications, to the benefit of the applicants. Similar efforts are being made to digitalize applications for copyright, patents, designs, and geographical indications, she added.

Mr. Faisal Yousaf, the chairman of PITB, reaffirmed his commitment to helping IPO-Pakistan digitalize their service delivery procedures.

The Government of Pakistan’s independent Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) is in charge of overseeing copyright, trademarks, patents, and other types of general intellectual property regulation.

IPOP was initially established as an autonomous body on 8 April 2005 under the administrative control of the Cabinet Division for integrated and efficient intellectual property management in the country, but its role and powers were further updated in 2012 through an Intellectual Property Organisation Act passed by the Parliament of Pakistan.

IPOP was transferred to the Ministry of Commerce in 2016, with three offices incorporated. Pakistan joined the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Madrid system in February 2021, becoming its 108th member.
