A health professional on Sunday urged social media platforms to increase awareness of the detrimental effects of tobacco use on human health and make the nation tobacco-free.
Despite a steady decline in tobacco use worldwide, according to Dr. Waqas Naeem in an interview with APP, tobacco kills millions of people annually. He cautioned smokers to either stop using tobacco products or brace themselves for an increased risk of smoking-related illnesses, such as mouth cancer, which can be fatal.
He demanded that the government keep up its efforts to educate the public and advance a smoke-free society by launching a counter-marketing campaign, raising awareness about the dangers of nicotine use, and encouraging young people to get involved in the war on tobacco.
He urged every Pakistani to join the effort to protect the health of the next generation. According to Dr. Waqas, smoking causes 90% of lung cancers, and smoking in public places has a negative impact on everyone’s health, including non-smokers.
He asserted that it is the responsibility of non-smokers to encourage those around them to give up smoking for good.
The expert also covered the negative effects of “gutka,” or tobacco-flavored chewing tobacco, which can tighten the jaw and eventually lead to mouth cancer. He pleaded with the media, parents, teachers, and the general public to take the issue seriously in order to successfully eradicate drugs from society.
He explained that mouth cancer, which can occur in or on any part of the mouth, tongue, lips, neck, and throat, is associated with an increased risk of developing due to smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Mouth cancer could be easily disregarded in its very early stages.
One of many cancers included in the head and neck cancers category is mouth cancer. Treatment for head and neck cancers, including mouth cancer, is frequently the same.
