The agreement was reached at the fifth meeting of the “Pakistan-Italy Joint Economic Commission,” which took place at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome, according to the official statement.
The federal minister for climate change, and Maria Tripodi, the deputy minister for foreign affairs and international cooperation of Italy, co-chaired the fifth meeting of the Pakistan-Italy Joint Economic Commission (JEC) on Tuesday, 30 May, at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The opening of an Italian Trade Agency office in Islamabad the following week was applauded by both parties.
Additionally, businessmen from Pakistan and Italy were present at the event. Speaking at the event, the senator expressed his pleasure at serving alongside the deputy minister as co-chair of the Pakistan-Italy JEC’s 5th meeting in Rome.
“With Italy, we are constructing a shared framework to combat climate change and enhance water management. We anticipate that the following JEC meeting will be held in Islamabad at a time that is convenient for both parties, she added.
Both parties valued their unprecedented $2 billion in bilateral trade in 2022, when Pakistani exports broke the $1 billion mark, and their nearly $1 billion in home remittances from 300,000 Pakistanis living in Italy, the country with the largest Pakistani expat population in the EU.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expeditious negotiations to conclude the framework for Migration and Labour Mobility while praising the completion of the “Visa Waiver Agreement for Diplomatic Passports.”
Italian businessmen from national chambers, the Trade and Investment Finance Agency (SIMEST), the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), as well as footwear, textiles, agricultural machinery, and olive culture, joined a significant number of Pakistani businessmen representing the leather, textiles, and footwear associations at the “G2B Session.”
Italian and Pakistani businessmen attended the meeting. An important “Roadmap for Cooperation” covering trade and investment, heritage, culture, agriculture, higher education, technical cooperation, and technology transfer in reference areas was signed at the end of the event.
