The Geospatial World Excellence Award 2023 ceremony was held in conjunction with the Geospatial World Forum 2023, according to a statement released by Mosti.

The use of geospatial tools and solutions in the areas of food security and agriculture earned the Malaysian Space Agency (Mysa), which is a division of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Mosti), the Geospatial World Excellence Award 2023.

The Geospatial World Excellence Award 2023 ceremony was held in conjunction with the Geospatial World Forum 2023, according to a statement released by Mosti.

The Padi Geospatial Information System (MakGeoPadi) was developed in 2010 by the Department of Agriculture, the Farmers’ Organization Authority, and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute. It has benefited 192,663 padi farmers and has been in operation without interruption. It can help authorities manage and monitor rice crops in 12 granary areas across the nation more efficiently.

The statement claims that the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization also received the same honour in 2022. This triumph demonstrates Malaysia’s ability to innovate through space geospatial technology on par with developed nations in order to solve issues, manage daily life, and advance the country.

This acknowledgement, according to the statement, “also demonstrates that Malaysia’s efforts through Mosti and Mysa in advancing the field of space science and technology are consistently relevant and in line with the objectives of the National Space Policy 2030, especially in the aspects of infrastructure development and space applications that have a favourable impact on the nation’s security, economy, and society.”

The national space agency of Malaysia is called the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA). On February 20, 2019, the Malaysian Cabinet approved the creation of MYSA through the union of the National Space Agency and Malaysian Remote Sensing Agency (MRSA) (ANGKASA). Technology, infrastructure, and the creation of strategic space applications will be the main focuses of MYSA.

To effectively support various public agencies in the areas of environment, natural resources, food security, disaster management, and climate change management, it will be tasked with gathering comprehensive satellite data and information systems.

By making the best use of already available resources and facilities, the merger of MRSA and ANGKASA into one organisation would increase work efficiency. Director general as of 2020 is Tuan Haji Azlikamil Napiah.
