The launch of Mastercard’s Data and Services Hub in KL, further solidifies the position of Malaysia as a leading contender in the region’s digital economic landscape.

The launch of Mastercard’s Data and Services Hub in Kaula Lumpur (KL), in the opinion of Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil, further solidifies the position of Malaysia as a leading contender in the region’s digital economic landscape.

In line with the government’s commitment to positioning Malaysia as a leader in the digital economy, Fahmi claims that Malaysia is successful in luring well-known international brands to set up shop there. He said, “I launched the new Mastercard Data and Services Hub in Malaysia, which will serve the Asia Pacific region,” in a Facebook post on Tuesday (May 9).

The Mastercard Data and Services Hub in Malaysia, which will provide clients throughout the Asia Pacific region with a range of offerings beyond transactions, will also cultivate a talent pipeline across a range of capabilities with a focus on data science, product development, and payments consulting, according to a statement from Mastercard.

The hub in Kuala Lumpur, according to the company providing global payment technology solutions, will support the organization’s delivery of solutions to partners in the fields of cybersecurity, credit risk, and data analytics. This will enable local clients as well as those throughout the region to scale and realise the full potential of their businesses.

Having a Mastercard Data and Services Hub in Malaysia, according to Beena Pothen, country manager for Mastercard in Malaysia and Brunei, affirms the company’s commitment to supporting the country’s ambition for the digital economy and to fostering a talent pipeline there, as Malaysia offers an excellent environment in terms of infrastructure, technology, and people.

In order to support long-term growth, she continued, “it is clear that we need to build on digital capabilities, nurture talent, and invest in upskilling. The digital economy is a key contributor for growth in Malaysia and is expected to represent a quarter of the country’s entire gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025.

Following the announcement in March of a partnership between Mastercard and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to construct a Cyber Innovation Hub, the Mastercard Data and Services Hub has now been launched.

The new facility will provide skills training and courses on cybersecurity-related fields to students and mid-career professionals, leveraging Mastercard’s cybersecurity expertise and UTM’s educational infrastructure, with the goal of creating a workforce that is ready for the digital age and enhancing the nation’s digital resilience.
