A steering committee made up of experts from the IT and private sectors was established on Thursday by the federal minister for planning, development, and special initiatives in order to implement digital transformation and boost the nation’s digital exports.

Following the release of a report on Pakistan’s digital journey, Recommendations for Digital Transformation in Pakistan, by the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the minister made this announcement while speaking at a roundtable conference on Digital Transformation in Pakistan organised by the Ministry of Planning Development & Special Initiatives (OCCI).

OICCI’s report offers a wide range of recommendations to improve digital connectivity and infrastructure, e-governance, e-commerce, EdTech, Fintech, AgriTech, HealthTech, IT exports, and Web 3.0 technologies.

According to the report, if the government fosters an environment that encourages local and foreign investors to fill in the significant gaps in digital infrastructure and connectivity, digitization could boost the economy by $60 billion by 2030.

The minister reiterated that the government is committed to giving the sector top priority in order to increase digital exports while highlighting the IT sector as the primary driver of this growth.

The Steering Committee will meet once a month to discuss how to put the OCCI’s advice on digital transformation into practise. The minister stated that the government will put the ICCI recommendations into practise and that increasing exports is the only way to solve the nation’s economic issues.

A 15-person National Task Force on Artificial Intelligence was established last week by the planning minister with the intention of achieving the necessary national development objectives. Creating a 10-year roadmap for accelerated AI adoption in the business, development, governance, educational, and healthcare sectors is the [task force’s] main goal.

The NTF is composed of representatives from the public and private sectors as well as artificial intelligence specialists. This cooperative strategy guarantees that the advantages of AI are available to all societal groups while also encouraging a concerted effort to maximise its power.
