A team of seven young Pakistani students is set to compete in the global finals in the United States, after winning the technical challenge at the Destination Imagination educational event in Dubai, UAE.

According to The International School (TIS) in Karachi, the team, which ranged in age from 5 to 11 years old, “won several awards, demonstrating their exceptional creative and problem-solving skills.”

The students won the piece-by-piece technical challenge category, in which they had to create and solve a hydraulic puzzle. For the challenge, the young team “worked tirelessly for weeks to build, design, and test their innovative solutions.”

“Their hard work paid off, and the students were the event’s ‘Youngest team,’ lifting the first position cup with the highest instant challenge score in the event’s history,” said Taymur Mirza, the head of TIS.

Destination Imagination (DI), a nonprofit organisation dedicated to teaching students the creative process through hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) challenges, organised the event.

Over 50 schools from around the world took part in the event, which will be held in Dubai in late March 2023. Javeria Siddiqui, Raahem Shafique Faridi, Azlan Malik, Ayesha Salman, Mishaal Fatima, Khadija Sultan, and Zamiyaar Saud, from grades 1 to 5, are the winning Pakistani team members. “I am ecstatic that my child and the entire team of Pakistani students won the challenge at such a young age.”

“It’s incredible to see my daughter representing Pakistan on an international stage,” said Warda Siddiqui, the proud parent of one of the winning students, Javeria Siddiqui, who is the team’s youngest member at six years old.

The students’ outstanding performance is a source of pride for the school. “This is a testament to their unwavering dedication and ability to work as a team to achieve their goals under the guidance of Asil Budhwani, STEAM teacher and coordinator.”

The school administration described the Destination Imagination event as “a fantastic opportunity for the students to showcase their talents and represent their school on an international stage.”

Following their outstanding performance at the UAE event, the Pakistani students have earned a spot in the Destination Imagination Global Finals, which will be held on May 20, 2023, at the Kansas City Convention Center in Missouri, United States.

The Pakistani team will compete against teams from all over the world. The DI ‘Global Finals’ event celebrates creativity and the creative problem-solving process for children of all ages, providing them with the opportunity to share their creativity and cultures.
