To raise awareness and put an end to this terrible wave of insolence across the nation, the Legal Commission on Blasphemy, a nonprofit organisation, has urged the public to observe Friday, April 7, as “National Day against Indecent Content on Social Media.”
At an Iftar dinner on Sunday, Commission Chairman Rao Abdul Rahim Advocate spoke with the media and revealed that, according to a report from the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing submitted to the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench, more than 400,000 people in Pakistan were allegedly involved in blasphemous acts.
He claimed that systematic desecration of Allah Almighty, the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), Ahle Bayt, Ummahat-ul-Muminin, Ashab, the Holy Quran, and the national flag was occurring on social media.
He expressed his shock and added that the FIA had arrested four suspected blasphemers in 2022. He claimed that this was not happening in any other nation but in his own country.
They established a blasphemy group in 2019, but when they were apprehended, they had more than 32,000 blasphemers in their ranks, he continued.
This information came to light during the investigation. According to Abdul Rahim Advocate, a small group of people cannot control this growing social and religious threat; instead, the entire country must play its proper part, and the government institutions must uphold their constitutional obligations in this regard.
He claimed it was the duty of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to implement social media filtration and begin social media registration in order to prevent the posting, sharing, and downloading of vulgar and obscene content in Pakistan.
He advised PTA to inform the FIA Cyber Crime Wing of those responsible for the following criminal activities so that they can be apprehended and prosecuted.
He claimed that thanks to the efforts of the Legal Commission on Blasphemy, 119 people had been detained, 11 had received death sentences from the trial courts, and two had had their death sentences upheld by the High Court so far.
