Muhammad Asim Siddique, a Pakistani student at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), has been elected president of the International Students Society.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia International (UTM) International, in collaboration with the International Students Society-Pakistan (ISS-Pak), held elections to select new council members for the session 2022–23. The society elected Muhamad Asim Siddique as president, Khadija Zia as vice president, and Asif Hussain Shah as general secretary.

The elections were overseen by Dr. Syed Hamid Hussain Madni and Dr. Asim. The election activity began with the general secretary of ISS Pakistan presenting the annual report, which was followed by the election committee presenting the election procedure and protocols.

Muhammad Asim Siddique, a Pakistani student at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), has been elected president of the International Students Society.

Asim is a PhD student in computer science at UTM Malaysia and ran for president of ISS, which represents students from over 90 countries. He received 189 votes, while his opponent, Nigerian Abdullahi Olayiwola Alfa, received 166 votes.

Other office bearers included Aiman Ahmed Shareef of the Maldives as Vice President, Oumaima Maroua Bouguerra of Algeria as Vice President of Women’s Affairs, Anas Ahmed Abdelbagi of Sudan as Honorary Secretary, and Abdul Rahman Muhammud Nur of Somalia as Honorary Treasurer.

According to Asim Siddique, in his inaugural address as President of ISS, his goal is to carry on UTM International’s mission and values of expanding UTM’s global reach and prominence, facilitating transformative global education and cross-cultural learning opportunities, and supporting the inclusion and wellbeing of its local and international communities.

“My vision is similar to UTM International’s vision of making ISS a leading and referred international centre with a global standing, which drives UTM to be a global university with an excellent reputation,” he said.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is a public university in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. It was founded in 1975 and is well known for its engineering, technology, and science programs.

UTM offers undergraduate and graduate programs in architecture, computer science, engineering, management, and science. With several research centers and institutes on campus, the university places a strong emphasis on research and innovation.
