ALRC Establishes in KMTH To Provide Free Of Cost Artificial Limbs

The Khadija Mahmood Trust Hospital (KMTH) has established the Artificial Limbs & Rehabilitation Centre (ALRC) to provide free artificial limbs to deserving individuals.

Dr. Khurram Tariq, President of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) and Chairman of KMTH, officially opened the centre.

He expressed gratitude for the free services of renowned orthopaedic surgeons Dr. Waheed Akbar from the United States and Dr. Amjad Gulzar Sheikh from the United Kingdom for this centre, stating that the ALRC is a joint project of the AANN trust and that under this project, state-of-the-art facilities would be offered to provide free artificial limbs to deserving individuals, as well as technology transfer.

Dr. Khurram stated that this hospital was established for the welfare and betterment of the less fortunate and that the services of these renowned orthopaedic surgeons would be provided at no cost. He praised the surgeons’ dedication and stated that they would also use modern technology to make artificial limbs for the needy.

He stated that typically, artificial limbs cost between Rs. 10 and 12 lakhs, but that with this technology, the cost could be kept to a bare minimum. He stated that artificial limbs are already manufactured in Pakistan, but that this centre would use cutting-edge technology to manufacture a person’s specific limbs based on the nature of his deformity, as well as knee replacements, at a low cost.

He also praised Dr. Waheed and Dr. Amjad Sheikh’s dedication, saying that while they are internationally renowned orthopaedic surgeons, they would provide their services for free. He claimed that the limbs created in this facility would allow cripples to live normal lives.

Dr. Khurram Tariq stated that while our initial focus was on treatment, we would now prioritise prevention, and vaccination would be initiated in this regard.

Providing artificial limbs to those in need can greatly improve their quality of life and independence. It is important for individuals who have lost limbs to have access to appropriate prosthetic devices that can help them carry out daily activities and participate in society.
