Antarabudaya Offers 10 STEM Scholarships For Local Students

Non-profit organisation Antarabudaya has launched 10 scholarships for local students who are interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) subjects for a four-month intercultural programme.

The four-month Scholarships programme will start with a 12-week virtual e-learning curriculum from their home country culminating with local students led social impact projects and presentations.

Upon completion of the online classes, participants will get to travel on a 4-week immersive experience to one of the six participating AFS countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Europe, India or the USA to observe how nations utilise STEM skills to address sustainability issues.

Datin Yasmin Merican, Board Trustee for AFS International and Advisor to Antarabudaya Malaysia, encouraged local youths to send in their applications despite the tight deadlines set on January 8, 2023.

Applicants need to be Malaysian citizens, aged between 15- to 17-years-old (born between November 25, 2005 and March 25, 2008), and able to fully participate in both online and classroom classes during the programme.

Antarabudaya Malaysia is a non-profit volunteer-driven organisation focused on intercultural learning across communities and a member country of AFS Intercultural Programs.

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. It refers to the fields of study and disciplines that fall within these areas.

STEM education is focused on teaching and learning in these subject areas, and is designed to prepare students for careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

STEM education is important because it helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and prepares them for the demands of the 21st century economy.

Many of the fastest growing and highest paying jobs require a strong foundation in STEM subjects, and STEM education is essential for preparing students to enter these fields. STEM education also helps students understand and address some of the major challenges facing the world today, such as climate change, energy security, and public health.
