A memorandum of cooperation (MoC) in the field of basic research in water resources was also signed between PCRWR and the National Academy of Sciences, Tajikistan (NAST). The Chairman PCRWR, Dr Muhmmad Ashraf, and the President NAST signed these agreements in the presence of the leaders of both countries. The delegations of the two countries held a detailed discussion on the promotion of cooperation in trade, investment, industry, technology, energy, education, communication, agriculture and other important sectors.
At the invitation of Prime Minister, President of Tajikistan payed a two-day official visit to Pakistan. During this visit, a number of bilateral agreements were signed between Pakistan (PK) and Tajikistan (TJK) in a ceremony held in Prime Minister’s house, in Islamabad. Pakistan and Tajikistan are brotherly countries linked through longstanding historical, cultural and religious bonds. These ties are marked by mutual respect and exceptional cordiality. The two countries have commonality of views on various regional and international issues.
Among the pacts signed is a transit trade agreement that was approved by the cabinet on the recommendation of the commerce ministry last week. Prime Minister said the transit trade agreement between Pakistan and Tajikistan will help increase business, trade and investment between the two countries. He expressed these views during a delegation level talk with the Tajik delegation.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that Tajik President’s visit will further improve the relations between the two countries. He emphasized that friendship between the two countries needs to be transformed into a strategic partnership. Expressing his views on the occasion, the Tajik President desired to further improve the brotherly relations between the two countries.
Foreign Office FO said ,“The two countries have commonality of views on various regional and international issues”. Tajikistan is the closest neighbour of Pakistan in Central Asia separated only by the narrow Wakhan Corridor. This proximity makes Tajikistan an important partner of Pakistan in Central Asia.
During the visit, the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas. The Tajik President’s visit to Pakistan expected to impart a renewed impetus to deepening cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields and further strengthen the growing geo-economic partnership.
Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) was established in 1964 and working is a body corporate vide PCRWR Act 2007 under Ministry of Water Resources. The management of the Council consists of the Board of Governors, the Chairman and the Executive Committee. Since its inception, PCRWR has played its role as a national research organization by undertaking and promoting research in various disciplines of water sector.
