Pakistani startup Roamers on Wednesday introduced first-app based public electric bike service, ezBike, in Islamabad.
The ezBike is an Uber-like service and the electric bikes are ecofriendly. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Amin ul Haque appreciated the introduction of public electric bikes.
He commented that the introduction of such services will resolve the problem of commute and public transport. Haq went on to say that the Ministry of IT is facilitating innovative initiatives as the government is looking forward to making electric vehicles a substantial part of Digital Pakistan Vision.
The service has started a pilot project in Islamabad. The bikes will be available at metro stations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. ezBike charges will be Rs.5 per minute which will be payable with QR Scan. Currently operating in twin cities with 60 bikes, the operations of ezBike will be expanded to other cities next year.

Haq said that this is a safe opportunity for women since they will be able to ride bikes themselves which will help them become independent.
“Amidst a rising pollution crisis, it’s great to see ezBike, an eco-friendly bike being launched in Pakistan as a means of travel. There is no lack of talent in, as National Incubation Center is full of start-up ideas. We at the Ministry are dedicated to funding ideas for a more progressive Pakistan,” he added.
Recently, several companies have shown interest in introducing electric vehicles in Pakistan.
Earlier, Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had announced that he will soon introduce three-wheeler cars for women.
Talking on Hum News morning show ‘Sabh Se Aage’ in September, he said that electric cars will start running in Islamabad very soon.
