After launching on Xbox One and the Microsoft Store more than two years ago, Sea of Thieves is now available to download on Steam. Rare’s swashbuckling launch on Valve’s platform includes all content previously released in the game.
Sea of Thieves, hailed as Microsoft’s most successful IP of the generation, has received a steady flow of content since it launched in March of 2018. That includes the Ships of Fortune update released last April that introduced a new emissary system, allowing players to carry out special diplomatic missions in-game.
The launch also includes the latest Sea of Thieves’ update, Lost Treasures. It dropped on May 27 and includes a number of changes to the story elements in the game as well as Daily Bounties to ensure that you’ve always got coin on hand.
Sea of Thieves is currently included as part of Xbox Games Pass, although a subscription gets you the Microsoft Store version. The $39.99 price tag is the same on both Steam and the Microsoft Store.
Twitch drops for Sea of Thieves have also launched alongside the Steam release. Players who tune in to watch partnered streamers like Captain Falcore will unlock Mutinous Fist ship set parts, Onyx equipment, and various emotes.

“After linking your accounts you’ll be able to grab each day’s gear by watching a partnered streamer complete their Daily Bounty, or by simply tuning in for 30 minutes,” a follow-up tweet by the official Sea of Thieves account read.
When GameSpot’s Peter Brown reviewed Sea of Thieves in 2018, he found it to be a “somewhat hollow game that can be fun for a handful of hours when played with friends” but recognized that his opinion could change once Rare brought new content to the game.
