International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in collaboration with Arid Agriculture University (AAUR), Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), SAARC Energy Centre, FAO and Technology Times celebrated International Women Day 2020 at AAUR.
The objective of this celebration is to highlight the need of gender balance for economic development of the country and discussing the possible innovative strategies for improving the socio economic status of women in mountain areas of Pakistan.
International Women Day is celebrating for appreciating the remarkable contribution of women socially, economically, culturally and politically to our society and honors the life, grit and determination of women. The theme for International Women’s Day 2020is “An equal world is an enabled world.” The theme will focus on innovative ways in which we can advance gender equality and the empowerment of women, particularly in the areas of social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure.
President Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Farida Rashid was the chief guest while Mina Dowlatchahi, Country Director FAO, representatives of ICMOD including Kanwal Waqar, Haris Ayub, Muhammad Ismail, Dr. Nomeena Anis from FAO, Ayesha Khan, Fiza Qureshi, Muhammad Sajid from Hashoo Foundation and Mr. Parras from Technology Times also addressed the participants of the seminar.
Farida Rashid highlighted the rights of women and their work for the country and society. She advised female students to strengthen their capabilities and capacity to deal with the challenges to equally play role for the development of the country. She praised the PMAS-AAUR for arranging an event on International Women’s Day at the campus.
