A tech-startup from Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) Swabi has got second position among top ten innovators of the world in an international competition “Shell LiveWIRE 2019” under category of Sustainable future.
The GIKI Swabi team received cash prize of USD $10,000 on winning competition.
Shell LiveWIRE is a global competition which highlights and rewards businesses that demonstrate excellence in innovation as well as giving entrepreneurs a chance to shine on a global platform.
This year, Shell LiveWIRE has partnered with Shell Global Commercial, which supplies lubricants, aviation fuels, bitumen, sulphur and related services to one million business customers in 150 markets, to deliver a competition focused on the circular economy. Shell aims to reward entrepreneurs that help move the world away from the linear economy model taking, using, and disposing of products towards an economy that designs waste out of the system.
The winners faced hard competition with Shell receiving 98 applications from 19 countries around the world. Twenty one finalists then had to compete in a public vote, which drew in more than 18 thousand votes from 144 countries.
According to details other then team of GIKI Swabi Pakistani startup called Greenovation also won a cash prize of ten thousand dollars under sustainable future category of the Live WIRE global competition.
Meanwhile, Greenovation has set up its pilot plant in Peshawar to transforms plastic waste into liquefied petroleum gas with support of the provincial government which will be formally inaugurated shortly.
