On every year 22 May International Biological Diversity day is celebrated to create awareness among the communal concerning on biodiversity issues.
The convention on Biological Diversity is the international legal instrument for conservation of biological diversity, and has been proclaimed by the UN from 2001.
This year’s theme is “Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health” mainly focus on biodiversity as the foundation for our food, health and a key catalyst to transform food systems and improving human health.
Keeping in view the importance of this day, ICIMOD in collaboration with Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH), IUCN, FAO, and Technology Times is celebrating International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD) 2019 at PMNH.
Many honored speakers spoke at the event to constitute a better understanding of biodiversity significance, decline and improvement for the betterment of human well-being.
On the occasion, Director PMNH welcomed the honorable guests. Moving ahead, Muhammad Ibrar Shinwari, Islamic International University talk about on International Biological Diversity Day – Introduction and Importance.
Dr. Aamer Irshad, from FAO share his views on transforming food systems and the human health. Professor Z.B Mirza spoke on Biodiversity Conservation: Challenges, Threats and Opportunities.
Mr. Saeed Abbas, IUCN discuss Key opportunities and emerging issues for biodiversity conservation in a changing climate. Concerning on the theme, Dr. Abdul Wahid Jasra, Country Representative, ICIMOD contribute the message of DG, ICIMOD at the Intel Biological Diversity 2019.
At the end, admirable guest of Honor ‘Ambassador of Nepal, Her Excellency Ms. Sewa Lamsal’ share the valued remarks on the biodiversity issue.
The event aimed to create awareness raising and sensitization for sustainable utilization of natural resources.
