Entrepreneur Organization (EO) Karachi organized the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) on January 12th, 2019 in which ideas of young Pakistani entrepreneurs were presented in front of panel of judges.
The final round of the event was held at IBA City Campus where the judges evaluated the products and ideas displayed by the promising entrepreneurs of Pakistan.
The honorable judges that evaluated entrepreneurs of Pakistan are Faizan Syed – Founder & CEO East River, Imtisal Abbasi – Managing Director IAL Saatchi & Saatchi, Haider Waheed – Supreme Court lawyer, Syed Javed – CEO Invency (Private) Limited,
Abid Zaidi – Microsoft Country Manager, Adnan Afridi – Former Managing Director Karachi Stock Exchange, Moazzam Ahmed – IFC Chief Karachi, Kamal Mian – Director Fast Cables, Tariq Mehmood – OTO Logistics, Asad Raza – Past GSEA Global Runner Up and Bilal Muneer – Chairman Precision Group.
The Pakistan GSEA Committee included Sheheryar S. Shah- GSEA Chair (Karachi), Kashif Shakoor-GSEA Chair (Lahore) and Shoaib Malik- Global GSEA Global Committee Member.
Rehan Shahid, Tariq Mehmood and Walid Mushtaq, Presidents of EO Karachi, EO Lahore and EO Islamabad respectively supported the event.
EO GSEA is a premier global competition for students who actively run a business and rub their shoulders with successful global entrepreneurs. EO Global has 181 chapters across 57 countries. It has three chapters in Pakistan (one each in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad).
Winner of the day was Ms. Areej Al Medinah for presenting the business “Connect Hear” ConnectHear is a project of a team that is determined to serve the deaf community in Pakistan and around the globe. Through this app, those having hearing disabilities can perform important tasks.
ConnectTV—an infotainment channel launched by the team also caters to sign language interpretation. According to the entrepreneur Areej “the lives of 80,000 deaf people have been impacted across Pakistan in just 10 months in more than 60 cities”.
First Runner up is Anum Amad her business is “Enent”, it aims to save our electrical costs by providing a portable device that distributes your current equally in a three-phase house & at the same time reduces electricity bills and causes no pollution.
The device (Intellica) works out load balancing schedule and balances the current according to these schedules. According to the co-founder, “electricity bills can be minimized by 25% and the full cost of the appliance can be recovered in five to six months”.
Third award grabbed by Sami Ullah for the business “Trip Mate”. It is the application looking to cash in on the adventurous types in Pakistan, was hopeful his product would be a hit with tourists.
Samiullah said that “his team had searched the top travel apps on Google Playstore before coming up with Tripmate”.
He further stated that “the most promising thing about Tripmate was that it worked offline to guide customers about locations and restaurants”.
