STAFF REPORT KHI: Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) in an attempt to curtail cheating in exams has introduced bar-coded admit cards for more than 225,000 students that will take Higher Secondary School Certificate exams starting from 28th April, 2015.


Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai, Chairman BIEK, briefed in a press conference that the initiative has been taken keeping in view escalating concerns pertaining to cheating, forgery during examinations. ” The students admit cards will now also have encoded details, including actual photographs, of each of registered candidates”, he said.


The Chairman BIEK further revealed that the board has also provided internet enabled smartphones to the superintendent of all 113 exam centers which will facilitate them for immediate verification of credentials of candidate. “In case of suspicion of impersonation, an exam centre will only need to send a photograph of the barcode to the BIEK control room, which will reply with the registered candidates credentials right away,” he explained. “From next year, we intend to empower the exam centers to do this verificationWork on their own with the help of barcode scanners,” he added.


These intiatives have immense significance as far as the transparency of examination system is concerned and yield fruitful results in future.
