STAFF REPORT KHI: The Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) has set into motion its the Dioxin Testing Laboratory that would help the fisheries sector in the country adhere to the prescribed international standards and thereby strengthen the case for relisting of the Pakisani fisheries products, enabling them to export quality products to the European Union and other countries.
The project was inaugurated by Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Zahid Hamid, when he recently visited PCSIR laboratories, Complex, Council for Works and Housing Research (CHWR) and Institute of Oceanography.
The minister said that PCSIR laboratories were internationally accredited and their results were accepted worldwide.
He stated that the Ministry of Science and Technology has initiated necessary steps to implement the proposals including in particular, measures to establish strong linkages among the research institute and academic institutions.
He said that with the establishment of this testing lab not only local industries will increase their exports and earn additional foreign exchange, they will also be utilising the testing facilities available in the laboratories, save substantial costs presently being incurred by them on their products tested for Dioxin elsewhere.
On the occasion, the minister also showed interest in Pakistans expeditions to Antarctica and supported NIOs stance in establishment of permanent stations of Pakistan in Antarctica.
