STAFF REPORT ISB: WWF-Pakistan raised serious concerns over the increased frequency of massive floods and urged the government to reduce the impacts of environmental hazards through better management of critical watersheds and floodplains.


The risk reduction and emergency preparedness needs to be improved from government counterparts. The efforts need much more holistic and channelized approach to reduce duplication and better execution of the plans.


Hamid Naqi Khan, Director General World Wide Fund Pakistan (WWF-Pak) has urged government to radically enhance the funding and adapt plans. He said while in his statement that it is imperative to reduce deforestation in watersheds and encroachments on floodplains for agriculture, human settlements and other purposes.
