IOFS Hosts High-Level Forum On Food Security In Doha

The second high-level forum of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) is set to commence in Doha, starting from Sunday.

The event, organized by the Qatari Ministry of Municipality in collaboration with the Islamic Organization for Food Security and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, will focus on crucial matters related to bolstering food security within the Islamic world. The Union of News Agencies (UNA) confirmed this in a statement released on Saturday.

Scheduled to run from October 1 to October 3, 2023, the forum will delve into a range of topics aimed at enhancing food security across the Islamic world. These include exploring the involvement of civil society in combating food insecurity, promoting agricultural technology for sustainable food security, and fortifying intra-OIC food markets.

A key objective of the conference is to evaluate the present state of agriculture and food security in OIC Member States, identify priorities, and devise strategies to tackle challenges associated with advancing food security in OIC nations.

Additionally, the forum will scrutinize the endeavors of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) and other OIC-affiliated institutions dedicated to agriculture, rural development, and food security. The proceedings will commence with an extensive media panel discussion focused on food security, themed “Synergizing Media within Food Systems”.

Experts in food security and media will explore the role of the media in fortifying food security within OIC nations and fostering meaningful collaborations in this sphere. The panel will feature participation from the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Al Jazeera Network, the TeleRadio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Committee on World Food Security.

The forum’s inaugural day will also encompass detailed panel discussions on mobilizing civil society against food insecurity, empowering women in the agricultural sector, and evaluating the impacts of urbanization and rural transformation on food security. The second day of the forum will pivot towards advancing agricultural technology for sustainable food security.

Experts and officials will delve into innovative water management techniques, sustainable and climate-smart agriculture practices, and leveraging emerging technologies for increased agricultural food production. Additionally, there will be discussions on forging partnerships between the public and private sectors to deploy technology-driven solutions.

The third and final day of the forum will revolve around strengthening food markets within OIC nations and spotlighting projects in the agricultural food sector across the OIC’s regional landscape.

The IOFS Forum coincides with the Ninth Ministerial Conference of the OIC on Food Security and Agricultural Development (MCFSAD) taking place in Doha on October 1st and 2nd, 2023, under the theme “Towards Achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in OIC Member States.”
