This significant event begins a new chapter in the development and enrichment of agricultural science and technology cooperation between China and Pakistan.

The Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) and University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) signed a letter of intent (LoI) to collaborate on agricultural science and technology between China and Pakistan.

This significant event, according to China Economic Net (CEN), begins a new chapter in the development and enrichment of agricultural science and technology cooperation between China and Pakistan.

The LoI states that the two institutions want to work together to develop a collaborative agreement that will let them carry out joint teaching, training, research, and other predetermined activities to strengthen the programme and their partnership.

Based on their respective academic and educational needs, the parties concur to support the growth of the exchange programme.

The post-harvest handling of agricultural products, integrated pest management of agricultural products in rice, maize, and nut fruits, interactions between pests and agricultural products at the molecular level, development and use of agricultural product resources, characterization and evaluation of germplasm, use of specialty maize hybrids, and other things are included here.

SAAS President Prof. Cai Youming and UAF Vice Chancellor Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan were present when the LoI was signed.

Prof. Iqrar stated that he was looking forward to learning from China’s experience in post-harvest processing of agricultural products, biological breeding, product innovation, technical services, and results transformation. The two parties want to create a strong exchange mechanism and complement each other’s strengths.

SAAS is a multidisciplinary regional research organisation with a focus on high-tech, applied, and fundamental agricultural research. Ten research institutes, an experiment station, an integrated service centre, and its own business, Shanghai Co-Elite Agricultural Sci-Tech (Group) Co., Ltd. are all part of this organisation.

Grain and oilseed crop germplasm application, fruit tree and ornamental cultivation, new variety breeding, horticultural crops, edible mushrooms, ecological agriculture, sustainable livestock and poultry farming, digital agricultural technology, effective biotech breeding technology, quality and safety of agricultural products, and preservation, evaluation, innovation, and utilisation of agricultural germplasm are some of the current research specialties.
