The first selfie camera is a 16 MP module of the under display variety, which will leave the large inner screen completely unblemished. Samsung recently showed off such tech at the SID 2021 exhibition and later in this video. It has it trademarked as “Under Panel Camera” (UPC).
Front 10MP 1.22um 1/3.2″ IMX374
Front 16MP 1.0um 1/3.09″ IMX471
Rear Wide Angle 12MP 1.8um 1/1.76″ IMX555
Rear 2x telephoto 12MP 1.0um 1/3.6″ 3M5
Rear Ultra Wide 12MP 1.12um 1/3.2″ 3L6
There will be a second selfie camera on the phone, this one a 10 MP punch hole on the external display. It’s not clear why Samsung would use only one under display cam.
Next up, some bad news. The Galaxy Z Fold3 will not have a particularly impressive camera setup on the back with a mundane 2x telephoto lens and a selection of not very big 12 MP sensors.
According to the latest rumors, the phone will have a 6.2” external and 7.5” internal displays, both running at 120 Hz. The inner one will support the S Pen too, though it may not quite replace the Galaxy Note that we’re not getting this year because it will lack a holster for the stylus (and the Notes would have brought improved versions of the S21 camera setup).
