Nestlé Invests $100 Million in Food Delivery Startup Wonder

Food and beverage giant Nestlé has injected $100 million into food delivery startup Wonder, solidifying a partnership that aims to merge Nestlé’s food production expertise with Wonder’s advanced kitchen equipment services.

The collaboration will target businesses such as hotels, hospitals, and sports arenas, offering them both kitchen equipment and prepared ingredients. Nestlé will also customize pizza and pasta for Wonder’s kitchen equipment, which will be available for purchase by clients, including college campuses and cruise lines.

The partnership is poised to enhance food quality, consistency, and revenue streams for operators in various out-of-home segments. The collaboration is set to expedite Wonder’s expansion efforts.

Wonder Group, founded by entrepreneur Marc Lore in 2018, recently acquired meal kit company Blue Apron for $103 million in September. Lore emphasized that the Wonder is building a mealtime super app, offering a wide range of cuisines from top chefs and restaurants while leveraging their culinary engineering and vertically-integrated model.

Initially focused on delivering meals through mobile restaurants, Wonder shifted to a more traditional model at the beginning of this year, resembling an advanced ghost kitchen. This approach allows Wonder to exercise meticulous control over every step of the process, from app and food sourcing to cooking, delivery, and all intermediate stages, ensuring precise cook times and delivery schedules.

The company is headquartered in New York City and operates in the United States. Wonder Group offers a variety of food delivery services, including meal kits, prepared meals, and grocery delivery. The company also operates its own fleet of food trucks and kitchens. Wonder Group has a stated goal of making it easier for people to get healthy and delicious food.

Lore has said that he was inspired to start the startup Wonder after he and his family had difficulty finding healthy and delicious food to eat.
