170 Pakistani Scholars Awarded Fulbright Scholarships For US Studies

It is with great pleasure that the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) announces the awarding of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to 170 accomplished Pakistanis who will study and conduct advanced research at renowned US universities.

Students from all over the world can study at American universities thanks to the Fulbright Program, the government of the US’s premier academic exchange programme.

In order to get ready for their academic journey and learn about American culture, campus life, and exchange student opportunities, the 2023 cohort participated in a two-day pre-departure orientation in Islamabad.

In addition to congratulating the students on receiving the Fulbright Scholarship, US Acting Deputy Chief of Mission William Ostick counselled them to interact with other students and benefit from their experiences.

He emphasised that while they are in the US, they will act as cultural ambassadors, fostering relations between Pakistan and the US and assisting in educating their communities about American values and character.

The 170 participants this year are students at 44 public and private universities. 129 Master’s, 41 PhD, and 7 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) fellows are among them. 61% of the graduating class this year is made up of women.

The award winners will start their academic careers this autumn at 81 US universities studying a range of subjects like engineering, energy management, and social sciences.

The group of Fulbrighters this year represents the diversity of Pakistan’s population, coming from every province and region. The esteemed scholarship is merit-based, emphasising applicants’ potential to support Pakistan’s social and economic development and close the cultural gap.

The organisation urges intelligent individuals enrolled in or lecturing at universities throughout Pakistan to think about applying if they have a plan for how their future higher education in the US will benefit their communities.

The Fulbright Program is run by international commissions and US embassies and is present in 160 countries. According to the amount of funding provided by the US government, the largest programme in the world is managed by the Fulbright Commission in Pakistan, also known as USEFP.

Additionally, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan’s government provides sizeable financial assistance. The HEC annually grants funding to 25 Ph.D. candidates to strengthen the partnership in the educational field.
