The seventh edition of the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 came to an end in Shenzhen with the Global Final. The event’s finale featured a competition between the winners of 146 teams from 36 countries, marking the first such event to be held in person since 2019.

More than 120,000 students from more than 2000 universities across 74 nations and regions participated in the ICT Competition prior to the Global Final.

At the competition, Pakistani students took home second and third places in the Network Track and third place in the Innovation Track. Muhammad Faeez, Asad Anwer, and Faheem Yar Khuhawar from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro were the winners of the second prize in the network track.

Together with other teams from around the world, Maryam Fareed from Lahore College for Women University, Fatima Shafique, Eman Yaqoob, Umar Raza from FAST-nu Islamabad, and Muhammad Zubair from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore took third place in the same category.

Additionally, among other teams worldwide, Team Quran Ustads from FAST – National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Islamabad, which included Minhal Zafar, Hyder Ali, Muhammad Shaheer, and Noor-ul-ain, and Team Glam from Pakistan, which consisted of Hasan Ali Khattak, Moaaz Tameer, and Sidra Farooqui, both took third place in the Innovation Track. In the global final this year, there were more than 21% female competitors, an increase of 8% from three years prior.

This year’s competition featured outstanding performances from teams from the Middle East and Central Asia. Aside from the Pakistani teams, the teams from the UAE and Kazakhstan took home the top honours in the Network Track, while teams from Iraq, Jordan, and Bahrain placed second overall.

In addition, the team from Saudi Arabia placed third out of all teams worldwide in the Network Track, and the teams from Jordan and Kazakhstan placed third in the Cloud and Innovation Tracks, respectively.

The Huawei ICT Competition aims to give college students from all over the world a platform to compete and interact with one another in the ICT industry.

By the end of 2022, Huawei had built Huawei ICT Academies in partnership with 2200 universities, assisting in the yearly training of more than 200,000 students.

More than 580,000 students from 85 different nations and regions have taken part in the competition since it first began in 2015. In order to prepare students for a more dynamic and inclusive digital world, Huawei is devoted to training more than 1 million students annually at 7,000 Huawei ICT Academies by the year 2026.

More than 57,000 people have obtained Huawei certification, and Huawei has trained more than 150,000 ICT professionals in the Middle East alone. Huawei is dedicated to achieving even more in partnership with its partners. Additionally, there are now 186 Huawei ICT Academies in the area.
